Who Whom Whose

These nerds, in a nutshell, so to speak, are rather unique individuals of variable styles that are …

The Press Club!

Since its inception in 1980, Three Day Stubble has been rubbing and wiggling its way around the US, Canada, all the way over to Japan and even as far as the prestigious Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland. The group has played with a diverse range of acts such as Beck, the Boredoms, Thinking Fellers Union Local 282, Faith No More, Jad Fair, and Sun City Girls.

Befuddled attempts to label the band bring comparisons to Frank Zappa, Pere Ubu, and Captain Beefheart, but they somehow fall short of the carnival of sights, smells, and sounds that is Three Day Stubble. Brut cologne, pyroflatulance, didgeridoos, trombone, platform shoes, trumpet, drool, bizarre keyboards, and teeny tiny drumkit swirl in a thick stew of guitars peppered with Donald’s inimitable vocal stylings.

Three Day Stubble shows the glory and horror of American culture turned inward upon itself, and the incestual expulsive ramifications of our democratic free society. Showing the struggle of backward egos from a relatively tame society, that would rather turn away from looking at their problems and delude themselves while acting out the eccentric behavior brought about by such ignorance, Stubble exposes this “bubble life,” never acknowledged by society, through music, dancing, and other entertainment. These guys are making way to allow and encourage the acceptance of individual expression and creativity, no matter how secret or personal.

The band refers to its music as ‘nerd rock,’ but that fails to capture the depth and scope of Three Day Stubble’s strangeness. The impression begins with the band’s attire, such as it is: eye -bendingly bad combinations of thrift store relics from the 70s that make David Lindley look like a GQ model. The nerd reference might strike closer with the musicians’ earnestly goofy expressions. Still, these guys make Bill Murray’s ultimate “Saturday Night Live” nerd, Todd de la Muca, seem socially adept.

Musically Three Day Stubble is similarly unique. Try to imagine a hybrid of Captain Beefheart’s advanced rythmic/harmonic weaves, the naivete and inadvertant dadaisms of the Shaggs, and the ingratiating enthusiasm of, say, Kukla, Fran and Ollie. Still not close.

Biographies!

Donald

Donald the Nut

The band’s vocalist, trumpeter, and frontman, Donald is also the purveyor of AVI, the art form of body movement and vocal sounds. Donald has been described as a child-raving lunatic madman in both his singing style and stage performances. Appearing on the GongShow in 1989, he promoted the band and performed AVI to a national TV audience.

Brently

Brently Joe Don Tanna Pusser

Guitarist and default musical leader of the band, Brently has played guitar since he was g- years old. He is known for his creative improvisational guitar styles as well as solid rhythmic structures while occasionally stripping down to diapers on stage. He has also been
known to bust up the musty bucks by tucking money it in his… Well, you get the idea.

Mr. Hungry

Mister Hungry

Guitar, keyboard, and synth player extraordinaire where do you want to eat today? Yes, Mr. Hungry likes to eat but you would never know it by his svelte body and the way girls go crazy for his stuffed booty and sexy legs that enhance his hot pants. Mr. Hungry! Quit
eating my pie!

Lance

Lance Boyle (Murderr Bob)

“The bass player is the most important member of the band”. Once he said it, that’s it! With low tones and high fashion, Lance has a sleazy sense of rhythm that holds the sound together with cotton balls and a pencil thin mustache. Just try
back-bending ninety degrees while trying to fly!

Shibbie

Shibbie Dow (Chilli Willie and Chillie Shibbie)

“Small Drums, big package” is not his motto but you might think so when he sits behind his famous “Chilly Dog”, a junior-size drum kit. He is humble in contrast to Lance but is just as slick when he does the chili walk, which is really more of an arms-in-the-air “I can shuffle” shuffle!

Chauncey

Chauncey Sanchezhaggischtein

Whack the drums and whack that man on the head because his playing is wack, in a good way! Chauncey is living his childhood Houstonian dreams by getting to play with his heroes. However, don’t tell him he looks silly in his tennis shorts and that WTF straw thing
on his head; he might have an accident or miss a beat.

Noreen

Noreen Spumonie (Dave Spumoni)

Percussion silliness and a pregnant sticks to boot, Noreen adds that trans-je ne sais quoi to the sound that makes the audience comfortably uneasy. She has managed to bless many recordings and live shows over the years while getting lost and forgetting bags at the airport are her favorite fun time tour games.

Gertie

Perty Nerdy Gretie

Multi-talented and rock solid with a knack for a clear, clean, and simplistic style that makes her perfect for sitting in on both drums and bass in a pinch, Gertie is our dirty nerdy little secret! So, don’t tell or pinch her without permission, okay? Frankly, she just keeps us out of trouble with her ability to double!

Kurtsie

Kurtsie Kaiser-Wilhelm-Straße

Just ignore the guy with the headgear behind the curtain! Engineer and bicycle helmet safety advocate, Kurtsie usually controls everything from behind the master switch but
occasionally can be found playing with his cell phone on stage.
